Quilted Moses Basket Mattress 74 x 28cm – Firm Flat Replacement

A quilted replacement mattress for a Moses basket, 74 x 28 x 3cm — the larger of the two standard sizes.

Measure your basket first

Measure the internal base before ordering. We stock 66 x 28cm and 74 x 28cm, and 8cm is easy to get wrong by eye.

The mattress must fit the base with no gap around the edge. A gap a baby can roll into, or a mattress that buckles at the sides because it is too big, are both suffocation risks.

Quilted or plain?

The quilting is a surface finish on the cover. It does not make the mattress softer, and it should not — a Moses basket mattress must be firm and flat.

What quilting does is spread pressure a little more evenly and feel less plasticky under a sheet. A finish difference, not a support one.

Why firm and flat

Lullaby Trust guidance is a firm, flat mattress with no dip. A soft or worn mattress lets a baby sink, which restricts the airway.

Press down on your current one. If it holds an impression, has flattened in the middle, or feels soft, replace it.

When to replace

Guidance is a new mattress for each baby where possible, and always for a baby other than your own. If reusing, it must be firm, flat, clean, dry and undamaged. Replace anything stored damp or showing mould.

Care

Always use with a fitted sheet. Wipe clean; do not soak.
