Girls' Sandals & Slippers
Girls' sandals and slippers at FlipBuy UK: plush winter slippers for indoors, and warm-weather styles.
Why indoor footwear matters more than people think
Slippers are usually bought as a gift or an afterthought, but they do a practical job in a British home.
- Warmth from the floor up. Cold floors, tile, laminate, older houses without underfloor insulation, draw heat away faster than most people realise, and children sitting on the floor feel it most.
- Grip on stairs. This is the safety point. Slippers with smooth soles are genuinely hazardous on carpeted stairs and hard floors. Look for a rubber or textured sole, not fabric.
- They keep the house cleaner and protect socks, which wear through fast on hard floors.
What to look for in children's slippers
- Non-slip sole, always. A patterned rubber or grippy textured base. Fabric-soled slippers on stairs are the most common cause of slipper-related falls.
- A back or a strap rather than a backless mule. Backless slippers come off on stairs and children trip on them.
- Machine washable if you want them to last a winter. Children's slippers get grubby quickly.
- Room to grow, but not too much. Loose slippers are a trip hazard, the same 1cm rule as shoes applies.
- Check for small detachable parts on novelty designs. Pom-poms, eyes and appliqué are choking hazards on slippers for younger children, and they should be firmly attached.
How to size children's sandals and slippers
- Measure the foot heel to longest toe in the afternoon, and use the larger foot
- Allow about 1cm: less than shoes, because indoor footwear should not slide
- Open sandals should have no overhang at the toe or sides. Toes over the edge means they are too small
- Check the width. A narrow slipper on a wide foot presses at the sides and gets rejected
Sandals for summer
- Adjustable straps, ideally at both the ankle and across the foot, mean one pair fits through a growth spurt and stays secure when running
- Closed toe protects against stubbed toes, which is worth it for children who will be climbing and scooting
- A contoured footbed supports the arch. Completely flat sandals cause aching feet on long summer days
- Check they can fasten them independently: Velcro rather than buckles for younger children
- Rinse after sand and salt water the same day; both are abrasive and corrosive
How to wash and care for them
- Machine wash slippers in a pillowcase or mesh bag on a cool gentle cycle if the label allows, and air dry fully, never on a radiator, which hardens soles and shrinks the lining
- Stuff with paper while drying so they hold their shape
- Wipe sandal footbeds with a damp cloth and mild soap; sweat and sun cream build up and discolour them
- Check the sole grip periodically. Worn-smooth slipper soles should be replaced rather than kept for another winter
Common questions
What size should I order?
Measure the foot and compare with the product page chart, allowing around 1cm, less growing room than shoes, so they do not slide.
Are the slippers non-slip?
Check the sole description on the product page. A textured rubber sole is what you want, particularly if there are stairs at home.
Can slippers go in the washing machine?
Many can on a cool gentle cycle in a mesh bag, check the care label. Always air dry rather than using a radiator.
Are backless slippers suitable for children?
They come off easily on stairs, so a style with a back or strap is safer for younger children.
