Smart Electronics
Smart electronics at FlipBuy UK — smartwatches with Bluetooth calling, GPS and fitness tracking, including AMOLED and rugged outdoor models. From £26.99 to £62.99.
These also appear in our electronics and smartwatches collections, which include fuller guidance on features, compatibility and battery life.
What separates these models
- AMOLED screens are brighter and readable in sunlight; standard LCD washes out outdoors. This affects daily satisfaction more than any other specification.
- Built-in GPS tracks your route without carrying your phone. Without it, the watch borrows the phone's GPS — which means taking the phone anyway.
- Bluetooth calling means a speaker and microphone in the watch. Useful, and the fastest way to drain the battery.
- Rugged and outdoor models are tested for physical durability — drops, dust, temperature. That is what military-grade refers to, not medical accuracy.
Health tracking — what to expect
These watches estimate heart rate, blood oxygen and sleep using optical sensors. They are useful for spotting trends over weeks, and that has real value.
They are not medical devices. Readings vary with wrist position, skin tone, tattoos, movement and strap tightness, and should not be used to diagnose or monitor a health condition. If a reading concerns you, or you have symptoms, speak to a GP rather than relying on the watch.
Check compatibility first
Most pair with both Android and iOS, but feature support differs — replying to messages from the watch is often Android-only, and some notifications do not pass through on iPhone. The companion app and supported systems are listed on each product page. Check any feature that matters to you before ordering.
Water resistance
IP67 means dust-tight and brief immersion — fine for rain, handwashing and sweat, not for swimming. 5ATM is suitable for pool swimming. No rating covers hot showers, saunas or hot tubs, because heat expands the seals — this is the most common cause of water damage and it is rarely covered by warranty.
Getting more from the battery
- Turn off always-on display and reduce brightness — together these account for most of the drain
- Disable notifications you do not act on; every buzz wakes the screen
- Charge to around 80% rather than 100% where the option exists
- Keep it out of hot cars — heat causes permanent capacity loss
