Why side sleeping matters in pregnancy
NHS and Tommy's guidance is to go to sleep on your side from 28 weeks, either side. Sleeping on your back in later pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of stillbirth.
The difficulty is staying there. Most people roll over in the night without noticing. A full-body pillow makes side sleeping comfortable enough to hold — the bump is supported from the front rather than hanging unsupported, and the section between your knees keeps your hips level and takes the strain off your lower back.
If you wake up on your back, just settle onto your side again. It's the position you fall asleep in that matters most.
9ft or 12ft?
The 9ft at 1.7kg is lighter to move and leaves more room for a partner. The 12ft at 2.5kg gives more length to wrap and shape — better if you're tall or have a king-size bed.

After the birth
Still useful. It takes the baby's weight off your arms during feeds, which is where most early-weeks shoulder and neck ache comes from.
Care
Remove the case and machine wash on a gentle cycle. Air the pillow regularly. Always use with a case.
Worth knowing
This is a comfort pillow, not a medical device. For persistent back or hip pain in pregnancy, ask your midwife about physiotherapy — pelvic girdle pain responds well to it.
Contact your midwife or maternity unit straight away if you get sudden or severe swelling in your face, hands or feet, a bad headache, vision problems or pain under your ribs. These can be signs of pre-eclampsia.
