Why restraint suits the technique

Most needlepoint designs pack the canvas. This one leaves space, which does something the busier cushions cannot: you can see the stitch itself.

A flat red circle against a plain ground is entirely about texture and edge, and hand stitching gives both a quality that printing flattens out.

Where it works
