Girls' Underwear buying guide
Briefs or shorts?
Briefs are the classic shape and sit comfortably on the waist under school uniform. Shorts-style underwear has a little more leg coverage, which many girls like under school skirts and dresses, for PE days or for playtime on the climbing frame. Some girls like a mix of both in the drawer.
Fabric and fit
The current briefs and shorts are 95% cotton and 5% elastane. Cotton is soft and breathable against the skin, and the small amount of elastane lets the fabric stretch and recover so the pants keep their shape. Look for a comfort-fit waistband that sits flat without digging in.
Choosing a size
Sizes are listed by age, such as 6 to 7 years or 13 to 14 years, and the full range on each product page shows which ages that pack covers. Age labels are a starting point. If your daughter is tall for her age or between sizes, choose the size up, as a slightly roomy pair is more comfortable than one that is tight at the leg or waist.
Washing multipacks
The packs here are machine washable at 40°C and can be tumble dried. Wash assorted colours with similar shades the first few times, as darker colours can run. Washing the whole pack together keeps the pairs wearing evenly, and topping up with a new pack when the waistbands start to loosen keeps the drawer in good order.
FAQs
Girls' Underwear: common questions
What size underwear should I buy for a 10 year old girl?
Start with the 10 to 11 years or 9 to 10 years size, depending on the pack, and go up if she is tall or between sizes.
Is cotton underwear better for girls?
Cotton is soft and breathable, which is why it is a popular choice for everyday wear and school.
How often should children's underwear be replaced?
Replace pairs once the waistband loses its stretch or the fabric thins, and size up as your child grows.
