The Vissla New Seas is a 5/4mm full wetsuit for men with Vissla's U-Zip entry, a complete closure that seals from shoulder to shoulder. Vissla rates it for cold water of 8 to 12°C.

Key details

  • Thickness: 5/4mm
  • Entry: U-Zip; Vissla says it keeps layers at the neck and shoulders to a minimum for paddling and is easier to get on and off than a chest zip
  • Neoprene: Feather-Foam Japanese limestone-based neoprene, which Vissla says contains recycled oyster shells and recycled rubber
  • Jersey: recycled Ridiculous Rubber jersey on the upper torso and arms, with recycled Rebound jersey body panels, as described by Vissla
  • Lining: Thermal Fever Fiber lining
  • Seams: triple glued and blind stitched, Neo 3.0 seam tape, stitchless outer arm seams
  • Seals: liquid tape cuff seals and Glideskin neck seal
  • Knees: abrasion-resistant Supratex knee pads
  • Extras: internal key cord, smooth-skin back panel
  • Composition: 80% neoprene, 20% nylon

Choosing a wetsuit thickness

The two numbers give the neoprene thickness in millimetres: the first is the torso and the second is the arms and legs. UK sea temperatures are roughly 7 to 10°C in winter and 15 to 18°C in late summer, so a 5/4mm or 6/5mm suit, often worn with boots, gloves and a hood, suits winter, a 4/3mm suit suits spring and autumn, and a 3/2mm suit suits summer.

Sizing

Vissla men's wetsuits use letter sizes with fit variants. MS is medium short, MT is medium tall and L is large. Check your height, weight and chest against the Vissla size chart before choosing.

Care

Rinse the suit inside and out with fresh water after each use and hang it to dry in a cool, shaded place out of direct sunlight. Take extra care with the smooth-skin back panel when putting the suit on and taking it off.
