Why a footmuff rather than blankets

Blankets end up on the pavement. A footmuff attaches to the pushchair and insulates from underneath as well as over the top — and underneath is where a pram loses most heat, because a child sits on thin seat fabric with air moving beneath.

It also means warmth without a bulky snowsuit that overheats them the moment you go indoors.

Pushchair, not car seat

Car seat footmuffs have harness slots positioned for an infant carrier and are listed separately. The two are not interchangeable.

Fit and care

Universal, with slots for a standard pushchair harness. Check your slot positions line up before first use. Machine washable — a footmuff catches everything a child drops.

Using it safely

Always fasten the harness through the footmuff slots and against your child, never over the top of the footmuff.

Watch for overheating. A footmuff plus a snowsuit plus a hat is usually too much for a British winter. Check the back of the neck rather than their hands — hands are almost always cool.
