The upgraded version of the Xplor folding trike, converting through six stages from 10 months to around 4 years.
The six stages
- Parent-push with full harness and canopy — from 10 months, essentially a buggy
- Parent-push with footrest
- Parent-push, pedals engaged — learning the motion while you steer
- Parent-steer, child pedals
- Child steers, parent pushes
- Independent trike — handle and canopy removed
Most children reach true independent pedalling around two and a half to three.
Xplor, Plus or Ultimate?
All three cover the same age range and the same six stages. The difference is specification and finish, at £99.99, £119.99 and £129.99.
If you are buying for a first child who will use it for three years, the step up is easier to justify than for a short-term or second-hand-onward purchase.
Folding
Folds for the boot or hallway. Check your boot depth first — a folded trike is bulkier than a folded stroller, and this is the most common complaint about the category.
Safety
Always use the harness in the parent-push stages. A trike seat is higher and less enclosed than a pushchair seat.
For independent riding, a correctly fitted helmet meeting EN 1078 should be worn.
Not for road use. Supervise near traffic, kerbs and slopes — there are no brakes at the independent stage. Check harness, wheel fixings and folding latches before each use, and confirm the fold is locked before your child gets in.
Accessories
Cup holder, storage bag, travel bag and raincover available separately.
