An i-Size infant carrier with the ISOFIX base included, for newborns through to around 12 months.

Why an infant carrier rather than an all-in-one

An infant carrier lifts out of the car with the baby still in it. For the first year that matters more than most parents expect — it means not waking a sleeping newborn, and it means carrying them into the house, the shop or the health visitor without transferring them.

The base stays fitted in the car. The carrier clicks in and out in seconds, which removes the main cause of installation error: refitting the seat every journey.

The trade-off is that you'll need a second seat at around 12 months. An all-in-one like the GrowWithMe or AllStage 360 avoids that, but you lose the lift-out carrier.

Approval

Approved to UN R129 (i-Size). Rearward-facing only, which is correct — all infant carriers are rearward-facing, and UK law requires rearward-facing until at least 15 months in any case.

What's included

Infant carrier and ISOFIX base.

Check before you buy

Your car needs ISOFIX anchor points — metal loops in the gap between the rear seat back and base. Most cars after 2006 have them on the outer rear seats. Check your handbook, and check which positions are i-Size approved.

Important safety information

Never fit this seat in a front passenger seat with an active airbag. A deploying airbag striking a rearward-facing infant carrier can be fatal. If the front seat is the only option, the airbag must be professionally deactivated.

Read the manual before fitting. Check the base's indicators show a correct fit every time you refit it.

Do not leave a baby sleeping in the carrier outside the car. Infant carriers hold babies in a semi-upright position that can restrict a newborn's airway over time. Guidance is to limit time in the seat to around two hours, and to move a sleeping baby to a flat surface once you arrive.

Two fingers' slack maximum in the harness at the collarbone, and no thick coats underneath.

Replace after any collision, however minor. Never use a second-hand seat or base with unknown history.

Free fitting checks are available at many UK fire stations and retailers.
