Why the base is worth £40
Incorrect installation is the single biggest cause of car seat failure, and a large share of belt-fitted seats on UK roads are fitted wrongly.
A base stays in the car; the carrier clicks in and out with a fit indicator. It removes the chance of getting it wrong on every journey.
Your car must have ISOFIX anchor points. Check your handbook before ordering.

The two-hour rule
Infant carriers hold a baby semi-upright, and guidance is to limit continuous time to around two hours. Use the carrycot for longer outings.
A note on light colours
Dune beige looks excellent and shows everything. Prams get muddy wheels folded into boots and carry children who eat in them. Check the fabric is removable and washable — most people who regret a pram colour regret a pale one.
Safety
Never fit a rear-facing carrier in a front seat with an active airbag. Always use the harness. Engage the brake when stationary. Do not hang heavy bags from the handle. Replace seat and base after any collision.
