Choosing a leash

A leash is usually chosen to be roughly the length of your board, so a 7ft leash suits boards around 7ft and a 9ft leash suits longer boards. Thicker cords are made for bigger surf, where a wave pulls harder on the leash, while a thinner cord has less drag in small waves.
